Food
Cafe Goodluck Restaurant (Pune)

Personal Verdict: 4.00/5.00

Ever since I came to Pune for my MBA in 2004, I have been a regular at Cafe Goodluck. Must have visited here atleast 40 times till December 2014. It’s an Iranian restaurant located on the busy FC Road in Pune, near Deccan Gymkhana area. It’s not the typical dine-in quiet restaurant. There are 3 partitions in here namely one for tea & snacks, middle one for single / individual customers coming over to have lunch or dinner and the third area for 2 or more people coming in for lunch or dinner.

The first thing that makes this restaurant click is the location. FC Road has one famous Ferguson College and hence the name of the road. So, a lot of college-going boys & girls frequent the place, especially the tea & snacks section within this restaurant. The first thing I noticed is their BUN MASKA & CHAAI, very typical Iranian snack. Thereafter, I have tried almost all foods including Kheema Pav, Bread Butter Omlette, Chicken Masala, Chicken Handi, Chicken & Mutton Biryani. Post this, tried all their deserts too including Malai Kulfi, Fruit Funny, Caramel Custard among others. Fruit Funny & Caramel Custard too good. I have grown extremely fond of the food they offer. Cost is low too !

Not amongst the cleanest of places, also don’t expect sophistication. Now, because it is very popular, you may also have to wait for about 10-15 minutes before you get a seat.

Besides, in the snacks section, each table can occupy 5-6 people. The rule of the thumb is that if you find a table occupied by, say 3 people, you can very well join them on their table. It’s not seen as rude unlike at some other more sophisticated places. People will happily allow you to seat besides them, subject to table’s capacity of course 🙂

One of the innovations I saw way back in 2006 that the Management introduced was during the summers. Summer in Pune is burning hot unlike in Mumbai where you sweat a lot, more so because of humidity. So, they fixed very thin pipes, having very small outlet, in front of ceiling fans and passed water through those pipes in full force towards the ceiling fans at fast pace. It gives a feeling of a cool breeze flowing in. I like this every time they do it.

So all in all, if you go with an open mind, you are bound to enjoy your time here. Recommended for sure !
