Hostel Vedanta Wake-Up (Kanyakumari)
After having done one of the craziest travel for the the first time in my life, traveling by India’s Longest Train #VivekExpress for 83 hours & 25 minutes, just because I wanted to, which eventually now has become my record, I knew from the word go that I shall need rest, although I will get enough rest in that train. Also since I was very sure of the soaring temperatures in Southern India beginning March and being on a tight budget, I was very keen on looking for some good budget hostels in Kanyakumari near beach, typically favored by backpackers. I had researched that most of the tourist places are near the beach itself. So, I came across this hostel on as one of the most economical, facilities-friendly, budget accommodation available. There are quite a few budget hostels in Kanyakumari but somehow I like this place, mainly because I was sure of the facilities and affordable tariff.
The minute I landed up here, I was okay with the overall property that I could see, from the inside as well as the outside.
The reception had good boys managing the show, never-mind the difficulty in communicating with the guests. But their willingness to help their guests clearly offsets that part. Each floor, I noticed had a different colour shade. I was based on 3rd floor and green is what you get there.
Mine was a non-AC room, and if you see the overall facilities, it still is nice. The room was with clean bed and pillows and mattresses etc. It was clean, neat & tidy. Had a small TV as well. It was only because of the March month’s hot weather, that I felt I should have probably booked a room of a higher value, that basically had an AC. Else, it was just fine.
Excellent to have a lobby on my floor from where you can see all the 3 seas i.e. The Bay of Bengal, The Arabian Ocean and the Indian Ocean. Wow !
Distance from Major Tourist Sight Seeing Spots & Landmarks in Kanyakumari
No matter what the websites tell you on the short distance or walkable distance, it is not. Technically it may still be in the radius of 2 kms from most of the landmarks but when you walk, you realize it is far. There is an inclined road to the hotel that takes most of your energy. The hotel also doesn’t have any vehicle as such. So, I felt there is a distinct advantage of other budget hotels in Kanyakumari over this one, in so far as reaching the landmarks is concerned.
Approximate Tariff of Good Budget Hostels in Kanyakumari
I got this really cheap, say around INR 560/- for full 2 days. I might have been really lucky those were the days with some great offers on TripAdvisor and I had to sneek in just at the right time. And sometimes you feel too good that even if your place of stay has tariff equivalent to that of a backpackers’ hostel, the space and the layout is big in comparison. It’s not the typical 2X2 layout, the entire room is yours. Plus you get space & privacy as well.
But lets say I got lucky here. Even if there are no discounts on online travel portals, the tariff range shall hover around INR 1,000/- to INR 1,500/- plus taxes. Stall pretty cheap, isn’t it ?
