Aadhaar Guest House (Pondicherry)

I have just been to Pondicherry in September 2015 and had finalized this place, out of all the hotels in Pondicherry, for my budget stay. On  Bookingcom, this looked like quite a comfort place to spend a couple of nights. And I am glad it turned out just the way I expected.

Reaching Hotels in Pondicherry

So to begin with, I arrived at Pondicherry Railway Station from Bangalore at around 8.00 am in the morning. Just outside, is Auto Rickshaw Stand from where you can hire autos to this place. This home-stay, as I would like to put it, is definitely not more than 1 km from the Railway Station and if you negotiate hard, you may get a great price for your Auto journey. Anything less than INR 70/- and I shall consider you a real deal-maker 😉

From the outside itself, this hotel looks very nice. Cosy, comfortable and very aesthetically made. As I made my way inside, the owner COCO was quick to receive me. I was surprised & happy at the same time to note that a French lady was the owner of the property.

She took me to the IInd floor and showed me my room (Room No. 2), and gave me quick instructions and do’s & dont’s. The room had 2 single-beds, an AC (which I didn’t use), free wifi, city map with all the important attraction points, a cupboard. Clean beds, nice soft & cushy pure white pillows, the bathroom had one towel in place and was clean too. Since it was hot & humid, I didn’t bother to check the hot shower. The water got sprayed from the shower with force and I was done.

The guest house also has a very beautiful roof top restaurant, very very nicely made, cool breeze flowing and on the eastern side is the Bay of Bengal ocean. Morning breakfast is served till about 10.30 am, includes omelette, bread toast with butter & jam, orange juice, sweet curd and tea. You can also view the Light House & at night, you can sit here, listen to your favourite songs and damn… You are also allowed to prepare your own tea.

COCO was very kind to arrange a bicycle for me (at free of cost), as I had wanted to roam the city on it. Best way to promote fitness as well as prevent pollution, isn’t it ? It takes a lot of effort, mind you, riding a bicycle after 20 years. Now irrespective of the money charged in other hotels in Pondicherry, I don’t think this kind of personalized service is given anywhere, apart from home-stays.

And it’s One of the Cheapest hotels in Pondicherry !!

All this for only INR 640/- per night (only cash), if you book via  Bookingcom. It’s a great place to be at for a budget solo traveler at this price & nice facilities. It also makes me admire & appreciate COCO, a French by birth, who has now made Pondicherry and INDIA (more importantly) her home from last 2 years despite so many challenges and the way she is running it.
